General Information

  • All of the on call programs will be managed using www.signupgenius.com
  • You will be required to create a free account, which will help you to review your existing commitments and schedule additional commitments.
  • The account will also ensure that attorneys only sign up for opportunities they are eligible for.
  • You can use the online system to schedule on call opportunities yourself, trade them with others, and cancel them if needed.
  • The system will not allow online cancellations with less than 24 hours notice. If you need to cancel less than 24 hours before a docket, please call, text, or email CAPDS.
  • You must provide a cell phone number when signing up for a shift.  We will use this information to communicate with you regarding these programs.
  • You can only sign up using the email address you received your invitation at.  If you need to change your email please contact help@capds.org.
  • If you need to change your email address at any time, please contact CAPDS.You will receive a reminder email before any opportunity you have signed up for if you choose.You can also download commitments directly to any popular calendar program for easy use.​


Attorneys of the Day

This program is available to A or B panel attorneys at this time.  This program will address the need of all criminal courts except CC4 and the Magistrate's Court.  Courts will contact CAPDS when they are in need of an attorney.  We have provided 3 sign up slots for each day. Assignments will cycle through those attorneys who have signed up for any given day.

Sign ups are available on a 14 day rolling basis.  Attorneys may sign up for only one slot at any given time.  Once your day passes you can sign up for another slot.   When you sign up you may choose any slot available, which means you may serve as attorney of the day more than once in a 14 day period, space permitting.


Attorneys should sign up only for days in which they reasonably expect to have some availability before noon.  Please do not sign up on days where you are out of county, are in trial, have a contested hearing scheduled that morning, or have a particularly busy docket.  


The day of:
You must either text CAPDS (512-774-4208) or stop by our office (CJC 7.004) when you arrive at the courthouse.  You then go about your day or are welcome to hang out in our office and share a cup of coffee.  If you are needed we will text you letting you know we have a case for you. If you are available, simply text back and we will give you the client and court information.  Attorney must respond to our initial text within 5 minutes confirming their availability.  You need to arrive in the court within 15 minutes or let us know you are held up.  Please check in with the court coordinator, get any updates the court has for you, text us and let us know you will be handling the case, and meet the client.  We will add the appointment to your AMP profile, and you proceed as you always would.


Magistrate Docket

This program is available to A, B, and C panel attorneys at this time.  This program will address the needs of in custody clients brought to Magistrate's Court. Based on our research we estimate that Mag. court will 1 attorney on most days.  We have provided 1 slot each day.

Sign ups will become available once a month, but you can sign up anytime that month, space permitting.  Attorneys may sign up for only one slot at any given time.  Once your day passes you can sign up for another slot.   Each month’s sign-ups will become available at 4:00 pm on the preceding 20th of the month.


Attorneys should sign up only for days in which they reasonably expect to have substantial availability before noon.  Please do not sign up on days where you are out of county, are in trial, have a contested hearing scheduled that morning, or have a busy docket.  


The day of:

On your day, you should arrive in Magistrate Court by 9:00 am and check in with Kerri.  Mag. court assigns jail cases as soon as they can in the morning.   Once you have resolved any cases you are free to handle your docket, but should be available by text to Mag. court.  Mag. court also makes assignments between 11:15-12:00, so please try to check back by 11:15 for any additional assignments.


County Court 4 Docket


This program is available to all panel attorneys at this time.  This program will address the needs of in-custody clients brought to CC4. Based on our research, we estimate that CC4 will need between 3-6 attorneys on most days.  We have provided 2 slots each day.  Assignments will cycle through those 2 attorneys who have signed up for any given day.  The assignments will be in the 3rd and misdemeanor range.  Most cases will not be resolved that day.

On your day, you should arrive in CC4 by 9:00 am and check in with Ashley and/or Vicki.  CC4 assigns jail cases as soon as they can in the morning.   Once you have completed your business in CC4 you are free to handle your docket, but should be available by text to CC4.  Please try to check back for any additional assignments.
